- Do you have a waiting list for services?
In June 2006, 13 new individuals began receiving supports through SpringDellCenter and for the first time in SpringDellCenter’s history we had to begin a waiting list.Whether or not an individual will be put on the waiting list depends on the specific service or program the individual will be participating in. SpringDellCenter takes pride in the quality of services we provide and does not want to jeopardize this even though we wish we could support everyone who inquires about our program.
- What steps do I take to be considered for services through SpringDellCenter?
Two levels of services are offered; short-term and long-term. Short-term services are funded through the Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS).These services are typically granted for persons with disabilities desiring to enter the workforce for the first time or who have previously been in the workforce but faced a disability that limited this opportunity. Typically these persons only require brief or limited employment services/assistance.If you or your family member has a disability that creates a barrier to employment, you should contact the Charles County DORS office located in Waldorf, MD. They will guide you through the appropriate steps to receive short-term services through SpringDellCenter.DORS recognizes a wide range of disabilities to include but not limited to: learning disabilities, mental retardation, mental illness, physical limitations, etc.
Long-term services are funded through the Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA).These services are typically granted for persons requiring ongoing and continuous care, assistance and support. If you or your family member requires long- term services, you should contact the Charles County Resource Coordination office to apply for funding to accommodate the needed services. This is the first step in receiving services from SpringDell Center. The Resource Coordination office will guide you through the remaining process. This entire process can be rather timely as there are numerous persons requiring services in the State of Maryland.

- How can I interview someone for a position opening?
Spring Dell Center encourages all individuals to advance towards individual placement employment opportunities. Employers are asked to be specific with job tasks when asking an employee. A Spring Dell Center supervisor will then match needed skills with invididuals looking for employment. Once the job is secured, a Spring Dell staff will assist in training the individual and will provide on-going follow-up.
- If our family member receives services from Spring Dell Center, will transportation be provided?
Spring Dell Center will make every effort to transport Individuals receiving services. There may be some limiitation or restrictions based on seating capacity of the bus in your area, the level of assistance needed or ones ability to safely ride without an aide. Although Spring Dell Center would like to transport everyone that receives our services, regulations state that our transportation role is to assist with transportation, which may mean helping the family arrange alternative transportation options to and from Spring Dell Center.
- Is there a fee for transportation services?
Spring Dell Center does not charge a fee; however, donations are greatly encouraged and appreciated. An individual's funding plan provides some funding for transportation, but it is not enough to cover our transportation expenses. Recently, with the dramatic rise in fuel costs, our budget has not been able to keep up. This fiscal year we anticipate a deficit of $170,000, which must be subsidized by other agency departments. Your contributions will help defray this deficit.
- Are aides provided on the bus routes?
Spring Dell Center does not provide aides on the buses. Should certain behaviors or situations require an aide, Spring Dell Center would assist in finding alternative means of funding for an aide or selecting alternative transportation.
- What are the hours of transportation?
Spring Dell Center has nine (9) bus routes transporting individuals to our Day Program, located at 6040 Radio Station Road and to various employment locations. These routes operate Monday through Friday. Each route is a little different, but the earliest morning pickup time is 6:00 am. and the latest afternoon drop off time is 5:15 pm.. Supported Employment also provides transportation for individuals on contract crews and those times vary with each contract.
Spring Dell Center hires professional drivers. Driver applicants should have a Maryland Commerical Driver's License, Class B or C, with a passenger endorsement, and be at least 21 years of age. If a position is available on a non-CDL bus; a regular licensee with a clean driving record would be considered, with the provision of working towards a CDL.
